On October 17, 2026, the Closing and Awards Ceremony of the Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) Artificial Intelligence Challenge 2026 (AI Challenge 2026) took place at HCMC University of Technology, Vietnam National University HCMC, to honor outstanding teams and recognize innovative solutions in artificial intelligence (AI). The competition was organized by the HCMC Department of Science and Technology in collaboration with Vietnam National University HCMC, the HCMC Department of Education and Training, the HCMC Youth Union, the HCMC Computer Association, and QTSC.
After more than four months, AI Challenge 2026 attracted 811 teams comprising 4,005 contestants from 198 organizations across HCMC and neighboring provinces and cities. Participating teams tackled a series of challenges involving AI applications in multimedia data search, retrieval, and analysis, with a focus on addressing real-world problems in urban management and digital government development.
At the closing ceremony, the Organizing Committee presented 52 awards to teams with outstanding achievements and promising ideas across two competition categories for university students and young people, and high school students. An additional 35 Potential Awards were presented to recognize creative approaches and encourage teams to continue researching, refining, and developing AI solutions with practical applications.
Beyond academic competition, AI Challenge 2026 provided opportunities for young talent to connect with experts, researchers, and technology companies, helping bridge the gap between research ideas and societal needs. The competition also inspired a passion for technology, fostered creativity, and encouraged young people to take an active role in addressing the challenges of the city's digital transformation.
